Today, we are taking a look at Wizordum, a retro-inspired shooter with a heavy focus on magical weapons and spells.
Those familiar with the original Doom‘s gameplay loop will be right at home, as players hunt for keys while navigating through levels filled with secrets and dangerous enemies. Wizordum is also frequently compared with HeXen, a Doom mod that ditched the sci-fi Mars hellscape and went for a medieval fantasy setting.
It’s easy to see that Wizordum takes inspiration from various popular shooters released in the 90’s, serving as a love letter to genre as a whole, but it also manages to be greater than the sum of its parts, thanks to a few modern tweaks and quality of life features.
Wizordum has received very positive reviews on Steam, and with good reason. The game is an incredible throwback to the golden age of first-person shooters, featuring creative weapons and some much-needed mage gameplay, which is becoming increasingly rare in the FPS genre.
