Niche Games Spotlight – Dwarves: Glory, Death and Loot

Dwarves: Glory, Death and Loot

Today’s Niche Spotlight features Dwarves: Glory, Death and Loot; an ambitious autobattler that released earlier this year.

In Dwarves: Glory, Death and Loot, players control a dwarven clan and start off with a few dwarves with basic equipment. After each fight, you earn gold and experience to improve your dwarves and give them different skills and roles based on their gear. These roles are separated into about 7 (if I recall correctly) classes based on the weapon equipped to your dwarf. This includes the essential dwarven warrior and guard, or more subtle roles like priests and “supporters”.

Controlling your lineup, formation, and class combination is vital to success in Dwarves. Different enemies have different attacks and strategies and countering them is vital to success. It can be tempting to just equip the “best” gear and assume that will be enough. But if you do that you’ll eventually hit a wall.

After each run you’re given points to upgrade your clan permanently. In a way this is almost an incremental kind of game, but the gameplay is much, MUCH, deeper than just clicking a button to gain resources. It’s an autobattler with a talent tree.

Build and command your fully customizable army of Dwarves in this medieval fantasy mix of RPGs, roguelikes and auto battlers! Prepare formations, assign roles, and lead your group through dangerous encounters like a raid leader planning the next pull. Decide the fate of up to 10 individual Beardlings as they chase Glory, risk Death, and fight for humongous amounts of Loot!

Assemble Your Dwarf Legion

Your run starts small, with only two poorly equipped Dwarves and limited options. Battle by battle, you expand your group, upgrade gear, and refine your setup – slowly turning a fragile party into a full-fledged legion ready to take on increasingly dangerous encounters!

Every Dwarf can be shaped into a distinct party-member through gear and equipment. Build sturdy frontline tanks to hold the line, deadly damage dealers to tear through enemies with meele combat, or fragile but powerful mages that need protection. Only a well-balanced group will survive once the fight begins.

Battles play out automatically, so the real challenge happens before the fight begins. Choose the right formation and position for your Dwarves as you are preparing for specific enemy threats, often deciding the outcome long before the first blow is struck.

Rich Roguelike Elements

After each battle, you choose how to proceed. Gain experience, invest gold into better equipment, or recruit new Dwarves to strengthen your group. Every choice pushes your run in a different direction, and not every path leads to survival.

Unlock permanent upgrades with Gems and strengthen your company for future runs with completely different playstyles and builds.

Endless Strategic Possibilities

As your party grows stronger, enemies become more numerous and more dangerous. Different enemy setups demand different answers. Reinforce your frontline against heavy pressure or disrupt dangerous backline threats before they overwhelm your group, you make the call.

Facing different enemy configurations, adjust your legion’s equipment and positions in a timely manner. Increase your frontline defenses if the enemy is launching a lot of assaults. If the enemy has numerous mages, focus on disrupting their backline. Only with correct tactics can you increase your chances of winning.

Simply stacking stats is rarely enough. Learning enemy patterns, adjusting formations, and refining your group composition are key to surviving tougher encounters. Each run teaches you something and rewards those who adapt. Build your group, prepare for the next encounter, accept losses, and push your Dwarves as far as they can go in the pursuit of Glory, Death, and Loot!

Dwarves: Glory, Death and Loot is available now on Windows PC (via Steam), Android, iOS, and Nintendo Switch.
