April brought us some major launches and announcements with things such as the Nintendo Switch 2 being slated for a launch just one month from now and games like Blue Prince, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and even a surprise remaster of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion taking the gaming world by storm.
Despite being sandwiched between last month’s hits and next month’s anticipation, May still has plenty of fuel to add to this year’s fire when it comes to game releases. Here’s our list of the top games launching in the month of May:
Captain Blood
After being announced over 20 years ago, Captain Blood finally sees a release after a tumultuous development cycle that saw it originally canceled after legal issues arose.
The game is based on the classic novel series by author Rafael Sabatini where players will assume the role of the titular captain as they explore and plunder the Spanish Main during 1685.
Captain Blood will finally set sail for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam and GOG) on May 6th.
Revenge of the Savage Planet
After losing their jobs and being kicked out into the edge of the galaxy, players will work together or alone to survive deadly planets in Revenge of the Savage Planet.
With at least four major planets to explore, players will fight against alien beings, harvest resources, and hopefully get their revenge on the company that betrayed them all while enjoying the vibrant and vast landscapes around them.
Revenge of the Savage Planet rockets onto PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam, GOG, and Epic Games Store) on May 8th.
Spirit of the North 2
In a world of ruin, players will take the role of a lone fox guided by a wise raven on a journey to find the lost legendary guardians in Spirit of the North 2.
They’ll roam a vast, beautiful open world with a variety of unique biomes, hidden secrets, and challenges to overcome. They’ll also battle against dangerous foes with the game’s unique puzzle-based combat.
Spirit of the North 2 launches on May 8th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store).
Doom: The Dark Ages
The Doom Slayer is back in this prequel to the critically acclaimed and popular Doom (2016). Players will find a return to form as they rip and tear apart the many demons of Hell as they learn of the hero’s past.
New weapons, tools, and skills are at your disposal to kill the many demons the Doom Slayer is destined to do as he is bound to serve gods and kings as a super weapon and protector against Hell. This will most certainly be id software’s biggest title to date.
Doom: The Dark Ages will rip and tear on May 15th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam).
Yasha: Legends of the Demon Blade
After the precious balance of the world is thrown off due to the rallying of demons by the nine-tailed fox. Players will take on the role of one of three warriors with their own unique playstyles and storylines to journey along and fight to save the world.
As they do battle against demonkind, they gather “soul orbs” to level up and improve their skills while learning new tricks to use against the never-ending armies of death. Each new expedition brings it new opportunities to change up their builds and strategies.
Yasha: Legends of the Demon Blade cuts its way to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam) on May 15th.
Capcom Fighting Collection 2
Capcom’s next fighting collection is here and it comes with classics such as Power Stone along with its sequel as well as lesser known titles such as Plasma Sword: Nightmare of Bilstein.
This collection also brings about new improvements to these titles in the form of beginner friendly quality-of-life changes as well as never-before-seen development documents from behind the scenes of each games’ development.
Capcom Fighting Collection 2 is slated to launch for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC (via Steam).
Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time
After numerous delays, Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time will finally launch to the enjoyment of many cozy gamers looking for a laidback and slow living experience where each job is its own “life”.
Players can freely switch between working jobs while they work towards exploring and restoring the island they will be calling home. They’ll be collecting materials, battling monsters, and much more either solo or in co-op multiplayer with up to three other players.
Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time is launching on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam) on May 21st.
Blades of Fire
Blades of Fire brings a new take on the fantasy RPG formula with its emphasis on forging weapons to take on the hordes of enemies led by an evil queen. With dozens of scrolls to mix and match, players will be able to create their perfect weapon and playstyle with ease.
Beyond making weapons, you’ll also engage with deep gameplay with the game’s combat style. Which has a focus on targeting specific body parts as they work on figuring out the best manner to counter the armor worn by foes.
Blades of Fire forges on May 22nd for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Epic Games Store).
To a T
From the makers of Katamari Damacy comes a game where players take on the role of a teen who has suddenly found themselves stuck in a perpetual T-pose. With an episodic story, players will explore each day and learn how to fit in and their sense of self.
In this quirky game, you’ll have to work your way through numerous minigames while stuck in this position, leading to humorous methods in order to take care of even the most mundane of tasks.
To a T is slated for a release on May 28th for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam).
Fuga: Melodies of Steel 3
The furry tactical RPG is back for its stunning conclusion of the trilogy that began back in 2021 with the original game’s release. With their friend Malt gone missing, the children set off on a quest with the aid of Taranis, a powerful tank long thought lost.
But things won’t be so simple as they’ll have to do battle against the best the Berman Empire have to offer. For players, this mean deep and engaging gameplay as each battle unfolds before them, forcing them to make tough decisions that mean life or death.
Fuga: Melodies of Steel 3 reaches its end on May 29th for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store).
Elden Ring Nightreign
Elden Ring returns with this new multiplayer take on the critically acclaimed series. Working together with two other players, you’ll be taking the role of unique heroes as you battle against powerful foes with the solid gameplay the franchise is known for.
This isn’t just Elden Ring with a multiplayer flavor. In order to defeat these powerful monsters, players will combine their unique hero’s skills and moves to perform stunning combos that’ll fell even the greatest of foes.
