Niche Games Release Recap April 2025

This is no April fool’s joke, we’ve got the list of some of the biggest games coming out this month. After the exciting releases of the last month, this month has some heavy hitter ready to continue the fun.

Hopefully none of these games end up as sad jokes when they come out.

Koira

Save and befriend a dog in Koira. Where players will explore a forest with their new animal companion while avoiding hunters and solving puzzles. 

As they progress, they’ll also meet and befriend other animals of the forest. As they do, they’ll stumble upon numerous mysterious monuments which they’ll have to activate to restore the forest back to its former glory.

Koira should already be available by the time this article is posted for PlayStation 5 and PC (via Steam). 

South of Midnight

South of Midnight is the latest of action-adventure titles drawing from folklore, this time from the history and myths originating from the deep south. 

When a hurricane tears through the town of Prospero, players will follow protagonist Hazel as she struggles to find her mother while also saving her hometown. During her journey, she’ll be faced against creatures based on the gothic tales of the deep south.

South of Midnight is set to launch on April 8th for Xbox Series X|S and PC (via Steam).

Crashlands 2

The sequel to the popular open world crafting RPG brings back the world of Woanope and protagonist Flux Dabes on her latest adventure as she recovers from a bit of corporate burnout. 

This new title promises to be even bigger and better as players find new areas, craft brand new items to help them survive, explore, and fight their way against Woanope’s creatures. All while meeting and befriending the world’s many inhabitants as well.  

Crashlands 2 crash lands on April 10th for iOS, Android, and PC (via Steam). 

Monaco 2

The co-op heist game is back with Monaco 2. With a major city filled to the brim with valuable items and less than moral inhabitants, players will team up as they work together to take some of these precious gems for themselves. 

They’ll have to use tight teamwork and careful planning through the game’s blueprint mode to understand the layout of their planned heist. Meanwhile this new entry adds in new unique characters to allow players new options to pull off their heists. 

Monaco 2 is set to steal the show on April 10th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam). 

Rusty Rabbit

In a frozen world abandoned by mankind and now run by rabbits, Rusty Rabbit follows the tale of a middle-aged rabbit named Stamp obsessed with collecting junk. After an excavation, he finds information leading him to believe his estranged daughter may be in danger. 

Relying on his excavating mech suit, he’ll dig his way through blocks within dungeons while battling many foes and bosses alike. During this, he’ll find materials that’ll allow him to upgrade his mech for more digging, and combat, power. 

Rusty Rabbit drills through on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PC (via Steam) on April 17th.

Post Trauma

Post Trauma is a throwback horror game inspired by PS2 classics such as Silent Hill 2. Players follow the story of Roman, a train conductor who wakes up to find he’s been transported to a nightmarish world. 

He’ll have to fight, or avoid, the numerous monsters ready to tear him to pieces in this survival horror title. Players can expect many of the staples from horror gaming’s past with this experience. 

Post Trauma releases for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam) on April 22nd.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

In this new take on the JRPG genre, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 follows the story of a group of people fighting in a desperate bid for survival against an entity known as the Paintress.

With an innovative turned based combat system that integrates real time elements, players will enjoy trying new and engaging strategies as they explore the beautiful world on their journey. 

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is set to release for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store) on April 24th.

The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy

The developers of despair return with their latest title, The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy. Following ordinary teen Takumi Sumino, players will find themselves thrust into a war against strange monsters who have disrupted their peaceful days.

Teaming up with 14 other students who have been selected the Special Defense Unit, they’ll have to battle tough foes and make impossible choices in order to protect the school for the next 100 hundred days.

The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy is slated to release on April 23rd for Nintendo Switch and PC (via Steam). 

Tempest Rising

Tempest Rising is a throwback RTS inspired by classics such as Command and Conquer and Starcraft. In a post-nuclear Earth, multiple factions fight for control in a desperate bid for survival and power. 

Across the game’s two separate 11 mission campaigns, players will learn about each faction while also learning of the truth behind the Tempest.

Tempest Rising launches on April 24th for PC (via Steam).
