Niche Games Recap for October 2024

The fall season of 2024 is fully in swing as we enter the spooky season of October. A month many dedicate to the many scares and horrors within all fictional mediums.

However this list goes beyond horror as many publishers and developers have some of their most important titles coming out later this month. Get our list of Niche Games launching in October:

Mech Warrior 5: Clans

MechWarrior 5: Clans continues the long running franchise with players pushed into the Clan invasion, a major part of the MechWarrior universe’s lore. They’ll lead an an elite mech squad into battle throughout a campaign with thrilling and strategic gameplay.

They’ll be able to customize their mechs with numerous weapon systems, armor, equipment, and upgrades to succeed in battle. All while developing their pilots skills to take on any challenge or foe that blocks their path.

Mech Warrior 5: Clans launches on October 16th for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store).

SpongeBob SquarePants: The Patrick Star Game

The time has come for Patrick Star to be the star of his very own game in SpongeBob SquarePants: The Patrick Star Game. Players take on the role of the iconic Starfish to explore the open world of Bikini Bottom and complete challenge given to him by many of his friends.

The game features physics-based gameplay to allow players the ability to enjoy the world’s sandbox with their own silly and creative ideas just like many of the episodes the popular television series had throughout its multiple decade run.

SpongeBob SquarePants: The Patrick Star Game dives in on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam) on October 4th.

Sword Art Online: Fractured Daydream

Sword Art Online: Fractured Daydream brings the MMORPG fantasy from the anime to life in this online co-op action RPG. When a new feature within the in-universe game, ALfheim Online causes players to fall into a world where time and space have been displaced. It’ll be up to protagonist Kirito to team up with allies and enemies alike to restore things back to normal.

Players will be able to immerse themselves within the world of Sword Art Online and team up with up to 19 players around to world to participate in massive raid battles with their character of choice in a roster of 21.

Sword Art Online: Fractured Daydream is set to release on October 3rd for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam).

Until Dawn

Nearly a decade after the release of the original that spawned SuperMassive games to where they are today, Until Dawn gets its remake just in time for the spooky month. Just like the original, players will follow a cast of characters in their attempt to survive while isolated in the frozen wilderness.

Just as gamers can expect from this title, they’ll have to make quick decisions that’ll determine the fate of their characters. Some fatal and many will change not only the ending, but much of the storyline itself as they progress. All with updated visuals to push modern hardware.

Until Dawn is slated to launch on PlayStation 5 and PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store) on October 4th.

Disney Pixel RPG

While perhaps having a rather generic title, Disney Pixel RPG is a throwback to classic RPGs with the cast of the Disney crew taking center stage. When strange programs cause havoc and merge between the game worlds of Disney titles, it’s now up to the player to make things right.

They’ll be joined by beloved Disney characters ranging from their classic and modern films to even Mickey Mouse himself. All recreated in retro style pixel art with beginner friendly RPG mechanics.

Disney Pixel RPG Releases October 7th for iOS and Android.

Silent Hill 2

The iconic psychological horror game whose influence changed horror gaming forever is back with the remake of Silent Hill 2. Decades after it’s launch, developer Bloober Team aims to recreate the game for the modern era while still aiming to be faithful to the ideas brought about in the original.

Some changes certainly have been made for the goal of modern gamers, such as the change to a over-the-shoulder third-person view over that of the predetermined camera angles of the original. Though upgrades in the game’s visuals will hopefully allow them to maintain the drab and unsettling atmosphere.

Silent Hill 2 is set to launch on October 7th for PlayStation 5 and PC (via Steam).

Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO

Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO takes the popular gameplay of the classic Budokai Tenkaichi series from the PS2 era and brings it into the modern era for fans young and old. The 3D combat aims to faithfully recreate the style from the anime series, letting players live out their fantasy of battling it out in the show.

The massive roster of over 180 characters ranging from the series beginnings to now means they’ll definitely be someone for everyone no matter if you’ve been a fan since day one or only just discovered the joy of Dragon Ball.

Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO is slated to release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam) on October 10th.

Metaphor: ReFantazio

From the makers of the popular Persona series comes a new JRPG, this time set in a fantasy world. After the assassination of the nation’s king send the world into chaos, a tournament comes up for many around the world to fight for the throne.

However the players have a different mission, as they aim to break the curse on the prince the world believes to be dead. They’ll have to travel around the world, make many new allies with the social system the Persona franchise made popular, and ultimately fight in the tournament themselves.

Metaphor: ReFantazio launches on October 11th for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam).

A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead

The popular movie franchise comes to life with this survival horror video game adaptation. The game tells the story of a woman’s struggle to survive against the alien creatures who hunt using sound while she deals with her family issues.

Just like the movies, sound plays a major role in survival as players work to outsmart the creatures intent on ending their lives. Though the protagonist’s asthma condition could prove to make this a challenge.

A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead quietly creeps onto PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam) on October 17th.

Super Mario Party Jamboree

The Mario Party series is back with Super Mario Party Jamboree. The latest iteration promises to be the biggest yet, with over 110 minigames to enjoy across the cast of 22 characters from the beloved Mario franchise.

Players also can play online with a brand-new game mode called the Koopathlon. Which is a 20-player online game mode with fast paced minigames to see who can collect the most points and top the leaderboard.

Super Mario Party Jamboree launches exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on October 17th.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants Unleashed

The ninja turtles are back with a video game based on the film that premiered last year in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants Unleashed. Players can choose their turtle as they do battle across New York City when mutants begin to wreak havoc.

Players can enjoy the game solo or with a friend thanks to two-player couch co-op. As they progress through the game, they’ll be able to power up their ninja turtle, unlocking new moves to take out their many foes.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants Unleashed will launch on October 18th for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam).

Rivals of Aether II

The indie hit fighting game is back with a sequel in Rivals of Aether II. At launch, 10 iconic characters will be available with future releases coming out for free. Players will be able to enjoy taking on each other with a 1v1, 2v2, and free-for-all game modes.

The mechanics have seen more improvements for gamers to be able to showcase their skills against each other. Now with a newly updated engine that features 3D visuals and stunning character design.

Rivals of Aether II smashes its way to PC (via Steam) on October 23rd.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6

As has become yearly tradition, the COD series is back with a new entry for their Black Ops mini-series. Taking places after the events of Cold War, the campaign is a spy thriller dealing with the continuing turmoil and political strife.

Players can enjoy that alongside the multiplayer gameplay that has become a stable for the franchise for nearly two decades now. The classic Zombies game mode also makes its return with brand-new maps for players to enjoy and look deeply in for easter eggs.

Sonic X Shadow Generations

The classic formula of classic and modern Sonic teaming up makes a return. This time with the addition of fan favorite Shadow the Hedgehog. Fans can enjoy brand-new stages as well as classic iconic ones in this essential greatest hits collection.

With Shadow, there will be a standalone campaign that sees the classic anti-hero doing battle with his nemesis, Black Doom. Beyond his speed, he’ll be aided with new Doom powers that’ll allow him to surf, fly, and even stop time.

Sonic X Shadow Generations speed its way onto Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store) on October 25th.

Clock Tower Rewind

Just in time for Halloween, the Clock Tower series returns with a remaster. Officially speaking, this is the first time the game will be released outside of Japan and professionally translated.

All the hallmarks of a remaster for an old title are here, with updated visuals and quality-of-life changes thanks to the decades of gameplay improvements since the launch of the original game. Of course those wanting the original experience can also play it here thanks to the Original mode.

Clock Tower Rewind turns back the clock on October 31st for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam).

Life Is Strange: Double Exposure

Life Is Strange: Double Exposure sees the return of the first title’s protagonist, Max Caulfield. Now a photographer-in-residence at a prestigious university, she thought she had left her powers in the past, knowing what could happen should she use them.

However, that all changes when her friend is murdered. Yet instead of rewinding time, she finds a new power as she opens up a way to a parallel timeline. Can she find a way to save her friend and stop the killer?

Life Is Strange: Double Exposure releases on October 29th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam).

Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket

Pokemon aims to recreate their popular TCG for a more casual audience with Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket. The game will allow players the chance to open packs twice a day with the hopes of obtaining cards with stunning artworks with their new “immersive art” feature.

Beyond collecting, players will be able to enjoy battling each other online with their cards in a simplified version of the paper TCG. Could this end up being Pokémon Go all over again?

Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket opens up on October 30th for iOS and Android.
