Hey guys – it’s Brandon here, the owner and EIC of Niche Gamer. This is your March 2018 Patreon update and overall progress report.
We’re moving further into the new year and we’re making some small but noticeable changes – first with the addition of new staff. Our first new hire is Caitlin Harper, a very passionate and talented gaming hobbyist.
She’s going to help fill up our news feed more and help relieve some of the load I put out almost every day, so we can focus more on administrative projects and overall care+expansion of the site and our network. We have tons of other applicants to process through, interview, and test out so please stay tuned!
We also launched our parent company, Pretentious Media, to which most of you were initially shocked but then relieved to find out more. The TL;DR is that I solely own that company as well as Niche Gamer, think of this simply as an organizational structure for Niche Gamer and our future sister websites.
In terms of overall development and care of Niche Gamer, we have made a few small changes to the site that you may have noticed. We removed author bylines from the main indexes (categories, tags, etc as well) so our article feeds look cleaner. We’re still trying to figure out where to throw categories and tags, but we’ll settle on something soon.
Our traffic and overall budget have been consistent with a gradual uptick as usual. Our social media platforms have been exploding with the popular memes via our meme-mancer Michael ‘Cwb’ Winton (also our community manager). Coming from this, social media traffic has been pouring over to our site, so we’re naturally happy with our numbers.
If you haven’t backed us on Patreon, check us out! We also accept one time donations via our PayPal, over on our donation page. If you simply want to keep browsing the site for free, please consider whitelisting us so we can remain independent and keep the lights on.
Lastly, we’re making final preparations for this year’s Game Developers Conference – including our coverage of Taro Yoko’s talk regarding the development of NieR: Automata. Please stay tuned and keep an eye out for our coverage of that event!
Thank you guys again – we love you!
