My game of the year for 2016 was Odin Sphere Leifthrasir. Everything about the game is great – the gameplay, the looks, the music, the story, the characters, the voice acting (in both languages) and even the extra features like cross save. It is a remaster done right and the best one I’ve seen.

I actually bought the Storybook Edition because of how much I loved the original PS2 version. That game really is a gem.

GOTY for me: Hmmmmmm…… I guess I’d have to go with…..

    This Is The Police.

I enjoyed many games this year, but I thought that game was pretty neat.

Yep. I got that too. Vanillaware’s artwork alone was worth it.

That made my number this year as well. Though of any original Title it was SMT IV: Apocalypse closely followed by Dark Souls 3.

Hmm… I suppose my GOTY would have to be either Estival Versus or Titanfall 2. I’ve been trying to go through Trails of Cold Steel and university, so I haven’t had as much time to play all my games from 2016.

I don’t think I have a game of the year. I mostly play older games and I don’t recall finishing anything that came out this year.

I’d have to give it to Dark Souls 3. A lot of good games this year, I particularly liked Salt and Sanctuary, but I put the most time in and enjoyed DKS 3 more than anything else.

Honestly for me it was DOOM, it scratched an itch I had been wanting for years, a good solid single player first person shooter.

While I’m not through yet I can pretty much say that The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II on PS3 is my GotY 2016.

Also sorry to say but all 4 of you have shit tastes.

Damn, everyone I know with a PS4 has been saying Let it Die is amazing, I’ll hopefully get in on that some day! Otherwise, I played a lot of pretty good games this year, some of which really wowed me in some aspects, but as whole packages were just alright. Stellaris had some awesome writing and very, very well done sci-fi world building, but the mid to late game just lost all magic and intrigue and became generic, for instance.

I was hoping Mankind Divided would come in clutch but it just turned out to be microtransaction hell, and the entire game was just a half-finished game so you’d want to buy the “DLC Stories” to play the rest of it, essentially a giant ‘fuck you’ from Square Enix’s new, disgusting business model of pinching pennies with a ridiculous abuse of “episodic releases”, the “augment your pre-order” debacle, etc.

I’d have to give my pick to Furi, for being pure creativity, and pure challenge without BS difficulty. Haters will say it’s fake, but, eh, that’s niche gaming for you.

I do have to say, as someone who has tried to like DKS for years, DKS3 was the first game I actually felt was approachable, from a more or less casual background like mine, and I enjoyed it way more than the others, even if the people who liked those games will disown it for that.

I actually almost chose Odin Sphere; Leifthrasir as my GOTY but only opted against since it’s technically not a “new” game, despite all the changes they did to the original.

I did play it and while this was ALOT better than the at the time current slog, it was just did not scratch the DOOM itch, I think it was more the fact you where basically Fury incarnate in the new DOOM, from the little bits like the way he shakes as he cracks his knuckles in the elevator you feel as if your character is silently seething in rage, he never speaks but has more chracter than I have ever felt from the likes of Master Chief hell I think he beats out Gordon Freeman as far as silent protagonists go.

My game of the year would probably be…

    Let It Die.

Funny to have a GOTY from a game that basically just came out, but it’s just amazing.

It’s free, but it feels like a full 60$ game.

    Long live Suda 51!

I would have to pick DOOM for 2016. The excellently balanced gameplay that basically forced you to keep moving and the sheer badassness of every element of the game make it the best game I played that launched this year.

Starbound was a close second for being basically everything No Man’s Sky promised to be.

That’s fair I suppose. To me the original was great, but the lag really was a detriment to my enjoyment. Leifthrasir had so much new content that I considered it a new game.

Doom wads work for me. Some of them use the source ports to the extent that they feel like new games entirely, and at times they are.

I’d really like to know if they’re at least making a good profit off Let it Die, or do they simply not care? I wouldn’t mind getting cucked by GHM to pay for a game like that.
