NicheCast – Episode 08

trigger warning 07-13-14-1

So you’re a regular visitor at Niche Gamer? The obscure games, the niche games, the weird games, whatever you want to call them, we love them and we know that you love them as well. We only cover these games on our regular feed, and we only cover them on our podcast as well.

The topic of the week for this week is all about those armchair activists who just seem to always find something new to be outraged over. This time, we’re talking about the re-blogging of a very misinformed article over on the Huffington Post regarding Akiba’s Trip 2, or as it’s known in the west, Akiba’s Trip: Undead & Undressed.

They’re a bunch of idiots who clearly don’t play video games, so we talked about it with our usual logic and reason, from a true gamer’s perspective.

You can enjoy our podcast below, or you can download it here (right click and save as).

The songs featured in today’s podcast are Warfare on a Plain from Vandal Hearts II for the intro song, and Midair Giant Playground from Brave Fencer Musashi. Just for your information – it’s always me picking the songs, so if you guys have any recommendations or music of your own, please let me know!

Again please write in to Niche Gamer-cast @ Niche Gamer with any questions, comments, music recommendations, and so on that you guys have. We will respond to any emails we get on the air during the next show!

Thanks for the cast. As a journalist I guess you can’t really ignore the other poorly written and researched articles but at the same time I’m sure it will pass, as long as the adult material isn’t marketed to children.

Disney had a lot of hidden sex references, parents still support that company. There was the awesome American animated movie Heavy Metal, tits-a-plenty in the 80s.

There’s also the fact that even if an anime girl is drawn with a small body and might look young, the artists and voice actors are (assuming) all of legal age. Drawings aren’t the same as the agenda other’s are trying to push. Let’s just ignore the ignorant and hope that developers continue to combine both risque and good gameplay, hoping also all these pleasing games don’t go way of the Leisure Suit Larry franchise.

Amen to that – it just confounds me every time, you know? I feel like sometimes these people are just flapping their mouths and spewing out whatever the latest outrage is trending.

Another thing I wanted to point out … it’s one thing to not like something after doing the homework about it, but to outright be ignorant to something and just straight up hate it ……… that’s what I call an agenda.

We want to be more interactive with our fans :) That’s why I keep saying at the end and in the article to write in! We’ll respond to you on the air with any questions answered haha!

It’s very strange. I think certain developers and publishers are totally FINE with getting an M, while others wouldn’t dare touch it, like in the case of NISA and XSEED.

Boobs and butts =/= an AO (adults only) rating, which means the game can never be sold in the Americas.

Having a penis go into a vagina = an AO rating, which most developers never even have in their games, unless we’re talking a hentai game, and those are usually unrated, and only available through certain distributors online.
