NicheCast – Episode 05

no man's sky 06-15-14-1

So you’re a regular visitor at Niche Gamer? The obscure games, the niche games, the weird games, whatever you want to call them—we love them and we know you love them as well. We only cover these games on our regular feed, and we only cover them on our podcast, too.

This week’s show is quite a long one, clocking in at just over two hours—and we go over the entirety of the news that pertains to niche gaming from E3 2014. We pick our games of the show, and ultimately rate each of the big three press events from Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft.

The staff on hand during the podcast also nominated their games of the show, and they are as follows:

  • Brandon: Bloodborne
  • Carl: No Man’s Sky
  • Josh: The Order: 1886
  • Rob: No Man’s Sky
  • Myles: Splatoon

So it looks like our game for E3 2014 is without a doubt No Man’s Sky! The game looks absolutely incredible, and what’s even more amazing about it is that it was created by a four-man team from Guildford, England.

You can enjoy our podcast below, or you can download it here (right click and save as).

Without further ado, here is the Bloodborne-themed giveaway that we were teasing on Twitter and such. We have an exclusive Bloodborne t-shirt (size: large) to give away to our fans. You can view it below:

Mortal Kombat X was my favorite game. I’ve been a fan since I was a child and Mortal Kombat X looks like it will no disappoint. The game looks gorgeous and runs smooth. Far Cry 4 is my second most anticipated though.

It’s so hard to choose between No Man’s Sky and Bloodborne, but since sony didn’t show gameplay to the public of bloodborne I’ll go with No Man’s Sky. Although there is Zelda Wii U.Argh

    No Man’s Sky 34%
    Zelda Wii U 33%
    Bloodborne 33%

So No Man’s Sky but only by a tiny margin.

When it comes to my favorite game of E3, I’d have to go with Zelda Wii U. Open-world Zelda?! Yes, please!

    And then, of course Bloodborne!

Very hard decision there. I think I’d have to go with Arkham Knight. I platinumed the first two games, and can’t wait to play this one. The E3 demo was amazing. I was skeptical about the batmobile being in the game, but it sold me.

Runner up goes to Bloodborne. It’s only a runner up because they didn’t have a gameplay demo on stage. Maybe at Tokyo Game Show.

My pick is Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Can’t wait after i had completed MGSV Ground Zeroes and after the awesome E3 Trailer the hype is at maximum level (IT’S OVER 9000!).

Bloodborne is what I’m the most excited for by far. I’ve been playing through the 3 Souls games in anticipation.

Nice podcast. I choose Bloodborne to be my game of E3 2014. I will buy it for day one. The HYPE is real. It is the spiritual successor of Demon’s Souls because it is developed from SCEJ and From Software. Many souls friends and I are all getting into the HYPER train!

Thank you! We’re always worried it comes out sounding kind of iffy because we’re doing it over skype – but we’re constantly trying to improve the quality. I also have to get around to putting it up on iTunes….

I’m right there with you though on that HYPE train. If they showed gameplay for it at E3, even if it was rough, the internet would have imploded. GAF would have crashed five times over.

I agree with you. GAF have crashed about Project Beast many times. Over 100 pages about Project Beast. And it is confirmed to the Bloodborne. That is a excited news for me.

    Definetly Bloodborne.

I have been on the Project Beast hype train ever since the whole “Demon’s
Souls 2 rumor” came around on the internet. Such small information
was known back in the day but it was all i needed to hop on the bandwagon. More and more small things got leaked, like the screenshots and Web M’s. Then, when Shuhei Yoshida introduced Bloodborne during their press conference at E3 i got SO damn hyped. From the basic “directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki” text up to the CGI trailer i got the chills and was really happy that “Project Beast” finally got confirmed as Bloodborne.

In all honesty i could go on and on about the announcement and just the subject in general but im gonna leave it as it is right now.

Quick question tho! Is the shirt giveaway on a global base? The reason im asking is because most giveaways tend to be “U.S. only” and im from Europe.

    Cheers, guys.

Bloodborne – because I love the Souls games and hold great respect for Miyazaki san :) This game will be the reason I will purchase a PS4 also. Good Luck to everyone involved in this great draft!
