This is Niche Early Access. In this column, we regularly showcase various promising games that are currently in some form of early access or development, and haven’t reached full release. Please let us know if there’s a game you want us to showcase!
I’m back with another batch of promising games that recently entered Steam Early Access. Even if you don’t like buying titles that are still in Early Access, remember to wishlist any games that catch your attention so you’ll be notified when they get a full release.
Here’s 5 new Early Access games that might be worth checking out:
Rebel Inc: Escalation
Developer: Ndemic Creations
Platforms: Windows PC
Price: $14.99 (Price will increase)
First up this week is Rebel Inc: Escalation, the latest game by the developers of Plague Inc: Evolved. The game is set in a fictional war-torn country, and while the war has been declared “over,” scattered remnants of insurgents still exist throughout the foothills and remote villages. Rebel Inc tasks players with rebuilding the nation while also trying to squash the last insurgents, preferably without screwing up too much and turning public opinion against them.
Rebel Inc: Escalation will hopefully leave Early Access sometime next year.
Ratropolis
Developer: Cassel Games
Platforms: Windows PC, Mac
Price: $14.99 (Price will increase)
Ratropolis is a unique blend of tower defense, town management, and deckbuilding game. Manage a small rat outpost and gradually turn it into a thriving metropolis. Build up your economy, expand your city, and fight off waves of predators and marauding rivals, all by drafting a deck of cards that expands as you play.
Ratropolis is expected to remain in Early Access for about six months.
SUPERVERSE
Developer: Superverse Industries
Platforms: Windows PC
Price: $24.99 (Price might increase)
SUPERVERSE is a fast-paced twin-stick shooter where players are sent through a series of interconnected universes in order to return to the past and prevent the extinction of mankind. Unlock new ships as you play and rip through hordes of enemies and space debris with an arsenal of high-power weaponry.
SUPERVERSE will be in Early Access for at least a year.
MOLEK-SYNTEZ
Developer: Zachtronics
Platforms: Windows PC, Mac, Linux
Price: $9.99
MOLEK-SYNTEZ is the latest open-ended puzzle game by Zachtronics. Like their previous games, MOLEK-SYNTEZ is based around programming a bizarre machine to make products, in this case pharmaceuticals. Alter ordinary industrial chemicals and turn them into wonder drugs by programming your molecular synthesizer to disassemble and reassemble them at a molecular level. As with all Zachtronics games, there’s also a card-based minigame as well.
MOLEK-SYNTEZ is already more or less done, and will only be in Early Access for about a month as the developers make small tweaks and alterations based on player feedback.
Rising Hell
Developer: Tahoe Games
Publisher: Another Indie, Togue Productions
Platforms: Windows PC
Price: $9.99 (Price will increase)
Finally, we come to Rising Hell, a 2D roguelite vertical platformer about escaping Hell. Climb out of procedurally generated rooms as one of several unlockable characters while fighting enemies and dodging devious traps. Upgrade your character during each run and defeat demonic bosses to earn your redemption.
Rising Hell will be leaving Early Access around Summer 2020.
