This is Niche Early Access. In this column, we regularly showcase various promising games that are currently in some form of early access or development, and haven’t reached full release. Please let us know if there’s a game you want us to showcase!

I may be a few days late this week, but that doesn’t mean I forgot to write a new Niche Early Access. Even if Early Access games aren’t your thing, be sure to wishlist these titles and keep an eye out for their final release.

Here’s this week’s batch of 5 Early Access games that might be worth checking out:

Hell Let Loose
Publisher: Team17

First up this week is Hell Let Loose, a team-based WWII shooter supporting 50 vs 50 combined arms battles that was Kickstarted back in 2017. Each of the game’s maps are divided into sectors that create a supply chain system. Players will have to capture and defend sectors to generate resources so their team can call in various types of support. These points can be reinforced by using resources to build fortifications and other defenses. The game features 14 classes, including a Commander, Medics, Machine Gunners, Scouts, Engineers, and more.

Hell Let Loose is expected to remain in Early Access for at least a year.

Armored Battle Crew [World War 1]

Armored Battle Crew [World War 1] is a tank and crew management sim set during the first World War. Recruit your crew based on their specialties and abilities, customize your tank, and embark on missions. You can take direct control of some battle stations as well. Break through enemy fortifications to allow allied infantry to capture strategic locations across No Man’s Land.

Armored Battle Crew [World War 1] is almost complete, and will only be in Early Access for around five months.

Barotrauma
Publisher: Daedalic Entertainment

Platforms: Windows PC, Mac, Linux

Speaking of management sims, Barotrauma is a co-op submarine survival sim in space. Players must work together to crew an advanced nuclear submarine under the frozen ocean of Europa. Fend off attacks from alien lifeforms, scavenge for resources, and deal with numerous disasters that threaten to destroy the sub and everyone onboard. Barotrauma also features an in-depth creature and submarine editor, and players can share their creations through the Steam Workshop. The game can also be played solo.

Barotrauma is expected to leave Early Access in Fall 2019.

Heroine Anthem Zero 2 -Scars of Memories-

Heroine Anthem Zero 2 -Scars of Memories- is the second episode in an ongoing series of 2D action-RPGs inspired by Siberian folklore and Taiwanese legends. The story follows Shama and Uzato on their journey to uncover the secrets surrounding a mysterious amulet. Players can tweak the abilities and gear of not only themselves, but also a companion that follows them around and helps in combat. Each level is full of combat encounters, secret rooms, and puzzles to solve.

Heroine Anthem Zero 2 -Scars of Memories- is expected to leave Early Access sometime later this year.

Deck Hunter

Finally, we come to Deck Hunter, the latest game to jump into the increasingly popular deck-building subgenre of rogue-lites. Help Avery break the curse on the world of Klanojh and restore balance. Build your deck of cards and take on the minions of Glatta, the Goddess of Anger. Unlock new cards for future runs, and further customize your character with armor and other gear.

Deck Hunter will be in Early Access for around a year.
