New Zelda: Breath of the Wild Update Reportedly Improves Performance

In an era when most games are shipped with the possibility of updating, fixing, or changing things post-launch, Nintendo has released a new update for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

While the version 1.1.1 update’s official patch notes are super vague in saying: “Adjustments have been made to make for a more pleasant gaming experience,” users are reporting the update has made improvements to the game’s noticeable framerate and performance issues.

The new update is now available for both the Nintendo Switch and Wii U versions of the game.

In case you missed it, you can find our thorough video and written review for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild here.

Noticeable improvements in the problem areas. Korok forest still not 100% but otherwise pretty shored up.

I’ll be testing out the Korok Forest and others tonight. Very excited for this

i take it you won’t be changing your review score, despite claims that performance is incredibly important to you?

Yeah, test it in Geruda area up in the mountains too. I was having significant stalls around that area. I’m on the WiiU if that matters.

It still doesn’t change the fact that the story in this game is damn near optional. I hate that aspect of the game. I get open world games and all, but parts of it should be at least little linear. Still… The game is addicting as hell and hard to put down when there’s so much to do.

Wii U got an update as well but from what I’ve been hearing the benefits aren’t AS good as Switch, but noticeable.

Hmmmm… I’ll have to give it a go and see how it is. It’s hard for me to gauge it as I don’t know if it was because I was playing all day which led me to believe maybe too much info was stuck in RAM causing it to bog down or if it was the area itself. We shall see.

did they also improve the gameplay? roaming around a giant empty enviornment for nothing more but shrines and seeds isnt good incentive at all. the game needed a more indepth system like leveling up or some sort of skill tree system

Your review score takes into account a hardware manufacturing defect that has since been fixed and also had nothing to do with the game itself.

I feel like that’s something that should change in the gaming news sites. You look at games after significant updates and things change drastically. Take Driveclub as an example. That game had nothing but problems when it first came out. Now, it’s a phenomenal game.

To be fair, I believe that reviews shouldn’t change with content updates or performance fixes. You are reviewing the product at the time of its release. There’s already plenty wrong with the NG Zelda review to begin with, and it was so late anyway that the only way they’d get anybody to read it was to tease it like a Square Enix mobile game announcement and then write the review deliberately to be outrageous and controversial.

This is mostly where I sit in my personal critique of the game. The performance issues are meh, but the fact that I’ve been feeling bored exploring at this point has kind of made me start putting the game down. I only explore to increase hp/stamina/slots now..

No it doesn’t it talks about the right joy con desync issue which is a programming issue , not the left joy con desync issue cause by hardware

As an initial critique of the game, no, the initial review shouldn’t change, but if there are significant improvements to a game where it changes overall quality of a game, there absolutely should be at least an update to the review. Or just re-review it all together. Because where initially a game could be unbearable to play, after an update goes out, the game could end up being great to play. In my opinion, review scores wouldn’t reflect the work put into fixing the problems with a game and no one would know that the game is actually great to play now. People will still judge a game based off of early adopter reviews of a game before improvements and fixes were implemented and regardless how good the game might have become as a result of said fixes and improvements. This generally really only applies mostly to technical fixes, but in cases where actual content was added, i.e. FFXV, those additions may greatly change the overall opinion of the game therefore the score should reflect those changing opinions. For better or worse.

Nowhere in the entirety of the written review is this specified. None of the other reviews I’ve read or the people I’ve talked to who played the game ever experienced such an issue.

Michael has shown himself to not be right in the head. Just on the recent YouTube video comments he started insisting that criticizing his review or his childish insults was “making death threats” and then started screaming that people only gave the game good scores because of climbing. He needs professional help, because he clearly is not sane.

Maybe should be 2 scores (though I hate the scored system), launch score and 6 months later.

But then again, while Drive Club got better, some games get worse. I remember Fallout 3 glitching badly when its first DLC came out.

If you want to show up those fanboy clowns that bitch and moan over a review score, show some maturity and be the adult. You’re just basically taking the bait and fanning up the flames more.

At this point I rather just piss them off to high hell, I hate the idea of people going “Look I silenced him” If people came at me with legit comments or DM I reply in the like. Its not my job to go “Baby need a baba….. its ok” and pat there head. People like to use the word maturity and professional, I am sorry if these people said half this shit to my face I would lay them out, as I hope all of you would as well. My “professionalism” does not extend to these pricks.

But that itself would have run contrary to the game’s underlying gameplay and narrative structure, as exemplified by the Silent Princess symbolism, and one of the reasons why people show disdain towards NG’s “7/10 – Too much freedom”.

Nothing more but shrines and seeds and enemies and horses and NPCs and collectable weapons and food … One of the few differences in this game compared to its predecessors is that the area is huge. Perhaps they could’ve added more towns or traveling people, but it’s hardly Empty. This just isn’t a game you liked for some reason, but it doesn’t sound like you played the same game most others did.

It’s easy to get bored of collectathons, but there’s plenty of stuff to do besides that.

You could say the same about a lot of open world games though, not to mention Nintendo games tend to be light on the actual story/narrative to begin with.

The player freedom of open worlds and telling cohesive stories/narratives mix about as well as water and oil most of the time, simply because by its very nature the player can wander off the beaten path at any given time. Nintendo’s style actually works really well with that.

So you’re saying it’s more about your ego at this point? How soft and fragile of a person are you to be so easily rattled by random trolls on the internet over a video game? I understand getting pissed getting death threats ( depending how severe the threats are), but there’s better ways to deal with this.

I havent played the game myself so i cant say anything on the merits of your review. However seeing you and the Nintendo fanboys/fangirls going at it, you both looks pretty pathetic right now. It’s almost as if you guys forgot how Gamergate started in the first place. We dont really need a second coming and we dont a grown man pulling an Any Schumer over a damn review score. Be the adult in the situation, Jordan.

Nintendo fanboys are the absolute cancer in videogames. They buy anything that crappy company puts out without a single thought. God forbid anybody criticize thier toys, then you feel the wrath of 35yr old man babies. There is nothing that’s truly unique about the Zelder Scrolls: Breath of damage control as a game. Other than its art style it’s a bunch of shit that’s only accepted because it’s ZELDA and ypu retards eat that shit up. Nichegamer can like and criticize anything they want and you nintards can fuck off, you ruin every fanbase you parasites become a part of.

aside from the 2 things i mentioned, everything else u mentioned in your desperate gambit are all laughably either consumables or complete lack of depth. i know its a zelda game and all, and zelda is designed to attract the simple minded, but its also an open world game, and i cant think of a single open world game as shallow and stale as this one when it comes to the reward. this game reminds me of paper mario sticker star when it comes to reward. they really are relying on the gameplay itself to be the reward in itself but if that were the case.. i would just pop in Super C on my nes

its a big game filled with empty. all the quests with the exception of the inventor quests are virtually a waste of time and pointless because they dont give you anything helpful. again, shrines and seeds are the only true useful purpose to explore.

Again, it may have done better had there been more added into the spaces, but this isn’t all that different from your usual zelda game, so judging by what you’ve said, you’ve never really enjoyed them. Being more open world does require more content, and you have a point that it could’ve been filled up more, but I’ve never played an open world game that kept me interested for so long while I was playing, and looked as vibrant or had such interesting characters.
Perhaps the next installment, using what they’ve learned here, will be even better.
