The official website for Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness, the visual novel based on the anime, has been updated to reveal the VN’s story.

Translated, the page reads:

Year 2112, Tokyo:
Two new recruits joined the Criminal Investigation Division No. 1 of the Ministry of Welfare’s Public Safety Bureau.
One of them is a calm female inspector with a lost memory, Kugatachi Nadeshiko.
And the other is a hot-blooded male court execution officer, Tsurugi Takuma, searching for a lost childhood friend.
When these two completely different people meet, the story begins.
The incident takes place far away from Tokyo, in Sado Marine City [佐渡海上市] which once used to be a futuristic city …

The two characters mentioned above are new to the franchise, as is another character, Alpha, whose inclusion is yet to be explained.

Recording has commenced for the voice acting, according to 5pb.’s Makoto Asada. He provided the image above, which is our first look at Sado Marine City.

Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness is being developed exclusively for the Japanese Xbox One market. It will make use of the console’s Kinect and Smartglass features. Players will also be able to send text messages via their mobile phones to characters in the game; just how this feature figures into the gameplay is still unknown.

More will be revealed about the game at 5pb.’s inaugural 5pb. Festival.
