New Subnautica game is in development

Krafton and Unknown Worlds Entertainment announced a new Subnautica game is in development, news confirmed with a key new job listing from the developer.

The original Subnautica hit full release back in 2018, and our thorough review found it to be great. Its standalone successor, Subnautica: Below Zero, was released a year later in 2019.

Confirmation that a new Subnautica game is in development came with the job posting for a “senior narrative designer to work with us to help shape the next game in the Subnautica universe!”

Here’s a blurb from the job posting:

New Subnautica game is in development

“Unknown Worlds is seeking a Senior Narrative Designer to join the team working on the next game in the Subnautica universe. This person will collaborate closely with the team to tell compelling, dramatic stories in the context of the game experience, while also defining the history and lore of a new science fiction world and its alien inhabitants. This person has a unique opportunity to join the team early in development and help establish the narrative direction for a beloved franchise.”

While we now know a new Subnautica game is in development, the only bit of info we have to go on is that it will define “the history and lore of a new science fiction world” as well as its “alien inhabitants.”

Publisher Krafton and new subsidiary Unknown Worlds are also hiring for a number of other jobs and unannounced titles, like a 3D environment artist for a “new unannounced franchise,” which is likely the “genre-defining game” they announced when acquiring Unknown Worlds last year.

We’ll keep you guys posted.
