Ennhhhhh. May pick this up, being an Uncharted fanboy, but Uncharted 4 gave solid and good final closure to the series, despite it being a letdown in comparison to others in the series, particularly Uncharted 2. Uncharted 4 suffered from both lack of music direction (while the music “worked”, the epic themes, in particular the iconic title, was missing), a very non-realistic rope-swinging mechanic making Sam & Nate work like Spider-Man most of the time, lack of character development (You never got a solid feel for Nadine there, for example, other than “Hardass new girl who beats you up constantly, and then leaves when she finds morals later”. It also suffered from the lack of any potential supernatural element to the plot/treasure. Uncharted 1-3 all had “treasures” that were implied to be supernatural in nature, but could also be explained away as scientific occurrences beyond the knowledge of the primitive societies they were from. Uncharted 4 just had… a… big boat full of treasure at the end. Despite all the Christian saints & biblical references/puzzles, in the end it was just a big boat of gold, very anticlimactic.

At least this new one shows someone actually remembered that the treasures are meant to be at least implied supernatural in nature, and recaptures that tomb raiding feel. However, using Chloe & Nadine is… meh. Nate had fairly solid morals, despite the damage and death he likely caused all the societies he rampaged through during his adventures. Sam or Sully would’ve been better choices, being somewhat closer to that. Chloe, on the other hand, is likable enough, but a manipulator, one far less morally upright than Nathan, and Nadine’s just a mercenary for a paycheck, neither are exactly inspiring or positive characters. It’ll be interesting, I suppose, if they give those characters some better redeeming factors, here’s hoping…

i hate daying this because it’s petty, but drucmann’s sarkeedian crusade left such a bad taste in my mouth that i just quit nd games. the whole amy hennig thing was just too suspect for my taste. and anyway, it felt as if she was the stronger writee.
