New Sid Meier’s Civilization game in development

Firaxis

While there has been major shakeups going on for developer Firaxis’ leadership, there also came an announcement of a major project from their team as well.

It has been confirmed that a new Sid Meier’s Civilization game is in the works, news confirmed by their new studio head, Heather Hazen.

“I’m thrilled to have this opportunity to carry on the studio’s storied legacy, beginning with the announcement that Firaxis is in development on the next iteration of the legendary Civilization franchise,” Hazen said.

She added, “I’m lucky to be working with some of the best developers in our industry, and we have plans to take the Civilization franchise to exciting new heights for our millions of players around the world.”

It will be interesting to see what “new heights” they have in store for the long running franchise. This announcement also likely confirms that work on the most recent title, Sid Meier’s Civilization VI, will come to an end soon.

Currently they are in the midst of releasing DLC for their Leader Pass. Depending on how long it takes for them to deliver their new title, it seems this pass will be the last of new content released for the game. Recently they released their Rulers of the Sahara pack for this pass.

Civilization VI has been available for Windows PC (via SteamGOG, and the Epic Games Store), Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4. In case you missed it, find our thorough written + video review for the base game here.
