Ys Net has shared a new developer diary for Shenmue III.

Featured above, the new video has series creator Yu Suzuki introducing various tidbits for the game’s story, plot structure, as well as its various themes. The game naturally takes place after Shenmue II, and features series’ protagonist Ryo Hazuki as he journeys through China in search of his father’s murderer.

Shenmue III picks up directly after the second game in the Guilin village of Bailu. From there players will journey through other regions within China like Choubu, the riverside village brimming with shops and businesses.

The third area of Baisha reportedly has a “siege game reminiscent of the Warring Kingdoms” era of ancient China. Ryo will also be able to make phone calls to Japan and catch up with characters seen in previous games.

Shenmue III is currently in development for PC and PlayStation 4.
