New Ranma 1/2 anime announced

New Ranma 1/2 anime

Famed mangaka and creator Rumiko Takahashi has announced a new Ranma 1/2 anime adaptation sometime soon.

The announcement comes not long after the conclusion of the successful new anime adaptation of Urusei Yatsura, also penned by Rumiko Takahashi.

The new Ranma 1/2 anime was also announced through the Weekly Shonen Sunday YouTube channel, who carried Ranma 1/2 in its original manga adaptation. The anime is said to be an entirely new adaptation of the manga, and might include manga characters that did not make the transition to the anime and its OVAs.

Rumiko Takahashi’s Ranma 1/2 manga, first serialized in 1987, tells about martial artist Ranma Saotome, who after falling to a mystical spring in China, gets cursed: if Ranma was doused with cold water, Ranma will turn into a woman, if the female Ranma gets splashed with hot water, Ranma will revert to a man, and so on.

Part of what makes the series enjoyable is the situation gets exacerbated by other females of the group like Akane and rival martial artists out to get Ranma, as well as would be marriage partners who want to get to the martial artist first.

More information will be revealed in a livestream planned for July 17th.
