New Q*Bert Game Comes To PC

If you’re an older gamer who, like me, came of age in the 1980s, then you probably remember Q*bert. Known by most kids today as that weird orange thing that appeared in Wreck ’em Ralph, Q*bert once ruled the arcades and even had his own cartoon show on CBS’ “Saturday Supercade” weekend morning lineup.

Well now it looks like the little fellow is coming back, since Galaxy Pest Control and Sideline Amusements (in conjunction with Sony, who owns the rights I imagine) is making a new title in the series for Steam. Priced at $4.99 and slated for release next week, the new game will not only have a modern-looking variant of Q*bert’s classic gameplay, but will have an option available that lets you play the original game unedited or remastered.

In a press release, Mark Caplan, Vice President, Consumer Products, Worldwide Marketing & Distribution at Sony Pictures Entertainment has the following to say:

“With renewed interest in Qbert, in part due to the cameo in the recent Wreck It Ralph animated feature film, we are delighted to re-introduce the game and characters to current fans as well as a new generation of gamers who are experiencing Qbert for the first time”

According to the developers, this new game will transition to mobile (and possibly PS4 and Vita) later in the year, but they haven’t confirmed or denied it. Possibly due to them wanting to see how it does on Steam first.
