New Leak Suggests That Cooperative Play Might Be Coming to Hearthstone

A new patch was released for Blizzard’s Hearthstone yesterday, and it hasn’t taken long for hardcore enthusiasts to datamine the contents of the patch and see if any clues may be found regarding the game’s upcoming Grand Tournament expansion.

The results of this datamining were posted over on Reddit, with the most curious being the following lines of code:

Added VO_HRW_TEST_00.AUDIOFILE: “test”

Added VO_HRW_TEST_01: “Well done! You’ve defeated the boss together.\n\nBoth players win!”

Added VO_HRW_TEST_01.AUDIOFILE: “test”

Added VO_HRW_TEST_02: “Defeat Gearmaster Mechazod together to win!”

These are clearly bits of code that suggest cooperative play is coming to the digital card game. It’s important to note that while this is a clear hint at co-op play happening, these are test lines of code, meaning they may never be used at all.

Is cooperative play coming with the Grand Tournament expansion? Only time will tell – although this could be for the expansion’s single-player adventure pack (currently not announced), or the game’s Tavern Brawl mode?

For now, we’re classifying this as a rumor – but we’ll keep you guys posted.
