New Kickstarter Announced: Call of Abraham

Here at Niche Gamer we report on things you might not see coverage on elsewhere, and when it comes to niche you really won’t find anything as truly niche as this game right here.

Bible Chronicles: The Call of Abraham is, as you can imagine by the title, a Christian themed game that is meant to tell historically accurate tales from the book and put them in the context of what appears to be an open-world RPG. As hilarious as it might sound to some, the game’s designers seem to be taking it quite seriously and a lot of thought has gone into their project so far. Granted, it looks fairly bland at the moment, but it’s about as good as any other indie RPG that has dared to go fully 3D.

This isn’t the first religious game to be made, since both Bible Adventures for the NES and the Wolfenstein-esque Super Noah’s Ark 3D for the SNES are well known amongst retro players who enjoy odd titles, but it certainly would be the most ambitious.

A quote from the developer’s sums the game’s direction up:

“We’re actually following stories directly from the Bible with game play that you will respect. Of course, there is violence in the Bible, but even when the main character must kill a rabid wolf attacking Abraham’s sheep, or run into battle, there is always a just cause and you are only able to engage in activities that are honorable. And on occasions where there is a better alternative to violence, you are rewarded for finding and choosing it.”

It’s unlikely to hit its lofty goal of $100,000 though, and as of this writing has only gained a measly $280…still, it goes to show you how diverse a crowd the Kickstarter phenomenon has attracted.

Stretch goals and further info can be found on the aforementioned kickstarter page.
