007 First Light has only been out for a short time, but Amazon is already talking about the future of the James Bond gaming franchise.

In a recent interview, Amazon Games general manager Jeff Gattis confirmed that while 007 First Light was developed and self-published by IO Interactive, future Bond games will be handled through Amazon Games in partnership with MGM.

“We did not make First Light. We do have a stake in it because we now own the IP, but that IP acquisition happened after the First Light IO deal was already done,” Gattis explained in the interview.

We know that 007 First Light has been a massive success, reportedly selling 1.5 million copies within its first 24 hours. The game follows a younger James Bond earning his 00 status and combines stealth, espionage, gadgets, and open-ended mission design inspired by IO Interactive’s acclaimed Hitman series.

Critics and players have responded positively, with many calling it the strongest Bond game in years. That success appears to have reinforced Amazon’s long-term plans for the franchise after securing greater control over the James Bond brand through its MGM acquisition.

Gattis also hinted at a broader strategy that goes beyond gaming. Amazon sees opportunities to connect future Bond games with films, television projects, and Prime Video content, creating a more unified entertainment ecosystem around the iconic spy.

For now, IO Interactive remains the studio behind 007 First Light, but if the game turns into a larger series, Amazon Games will be playing a much bigger role in where James Bond goes next.
