The latest Famitsu (via Ryokutya2089) and Sega have introduced some new details for the recently announced Valkyria Chronicles 4.
A new class, the Grenadier, is confirmed for the game. They naturally use grenade launchers and have both long range and high ballistic damage capabilities. You can use this to fire enemies before they see you, provided another ally sees them on the front lines so the grenadier can line up the shot.
The game is being produced by Katsura Mikami, one of the producers on Valkyria Revolution, which saw a release this year. Mikami notes that this game will be a proper follow-up to the series origins. It’s set in the same time period and region as the first game, but with a new cast.

The continent of Europa is engulfed in the flames of the Second Europan War between the Atlantic Federation and the Autocratic Eastern Imperial Alliance. A Coming-of-Age Story in a Time of War – Valkyria Chronicles 4 takes place in the same timeframe as the original Valkyria Chronicles, but focuses on a whole new cast of main characters. Players will take command of the eager, young Commander Claude Wallace, engineer/heavy weapons extraordinaire Riley Miller, hotheaded Darcsen Raz, ice-cold ace sniper Kai Schulen, and more. Together, they will experience the painful realities of war–but will the bonds of Squad E’s friendships survive the frozen battlefield?

Riley Miller (voice by Nao Touyama)
The main heroine. Edinburgh Army 101st Division No. 1 Battle Brigade No. 32 Armor Ranger Battalion E Heavy Weapons Support Squad Grenadier. A second lieutenant technician, she’s both upbeat and positive, while also being motivated to keep moving forward with no fear of failure.
Darcsen Raz (voice by Kazuya Nakai)
Edinburgh Army 101st Division No. 1 Battle Brigade No. 32 Armor Ranger Battalion E Division Officer and Assault Soldier. He’s a sergeant, and quite a hotheaded guy with a loudmouth to match. He’s frequently getting into fights and often gets confused due to his personality. Despite this, he’s very protective of his friends.
Kai Schulen (voice by Maaya Sakamoto)
Edinburgh Army 101st Division No. 1 Battle Brigade No. 32 Rocket Battalion E Division Captain. She’s a master sergeant and a sniper, known as the “one shot killer” and a prodigy sharpshooter distinguished by her extremely determined eyes. Despite her silent yet blunt personality, she’s a childhood friend of Claude, Raz, and Riley.
Development on the game is reportedly 90% complete, meaning it’s on schedule for the planned release next year.
Valkyria Chronicles 4 is launching across PlayStation 4 on March 21st, 2018 and summer 2018 for Switch in Japan, while the western release is set for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch in the Americas and Europe.
