New Fist of the North Star anime reveals 2026 release and main cast

Fist of the North Star

Warner Bros. Japan shared new details for the new Fist of the North Star (Hokuto no Ken) anime, which is being produced in celebration of the series’ 40th anniversary.

The new trailer and details were revealed at the production studio’s Anime Expo 2025 panel, which confirmed its main cast, including the new Kenshiro:

  • Shunsuke Takeuchi as Kenshiro
  • Yamashita Daiki as Bat
  • M.A.O. as Rin

While the original anime adaptation for the series was all traditionally hand-animated, the new series is animated with the latest technology in computer graphics. Furthermore, the all-new Fist of the North Star series is now set to premiere sometime in 2026.

Showrunners for the new anime also revealed a new visual featuring Bat and Rin:

The original and legendary Fist of the North Star manga was produced by Buronson and artist Tetsuo Hara, publishing in Weekly Shōnen Jump from 1983 through 1988. Viz Media most recently picked up the original manga for a new edition both in print and digitally.

Fist of the North Star also spawned a popular two-season anime from 1984 through 1988 and had 152 episodes. The series has been massively influential in other anime, films, and video games, even getting its own game adaptations as well.

Here’s the first trailer:

The story behind the iconic series is set in a post-apocalyptic Earth where nuclear war has wiped out most of humanity. The protagonist, Kenshiro, is the successor of an ancient assassination-focused martial art that has its practitioners kill enemies from within their body via the use of hidden meridian points. Kenshiro’s fiancee gets kidnapped, spurring his journey to rescue her and ultimately becoming the savior of the weak in a lawless wasteland.
