New Eye Of The Beholder Sequel Being Worked On By Fans

Back before Blizzard, Bethesda, or BioWare, the biggest and most skilled CRPG developer was Westwood Associates/Studios, and few games did more for the genre (or for converting more kids into the world of D&D computer games) then their Eye of the Beholder series. Nobody made step-movement dungeon crawlers the way they did, and after Lands of Lore, no one ever could.

That being said, if you’re a classic gamer, D&D fan, or just someone who appreciates the effort brought forth by devotees of a game to continue its legacy, a group of fans have decided to make a fourth game in the Eye of the Beholder series, bringing the series back from the dead after 16 years and probably helping folks forget the poor condition of the 3rd game in the process.

Set a century after the events of Eye of the Beholder 3, this new fanmade entry centers around a mysterious island formed off the coast of Waterdeep. This island, which was found to be rich in rare materials, was quickly mined by Dwarves who, while digging, found a new entrance to the underdark. The party, perhaps being too curious for their own good, decides to investigate it.

Though it looks awfully professional, the fans making this game do not currently have any rights to the Eye of the Beholder name. What this means is that unless they get some sort of official backing or permission to use it, this project is likely to get a cease & desist letter.

Until then, you can check out the official Facebook page for the project. Thanks to indie retro news for the heads up.
