New Dragon Quest XI Footage Introduces Combat, Flying, Camping, More

Square Enix debuted (via Games Jouhou) new footage for Dragon Quest XI via a recent NHK program.

Featured above, the new gameplay for the upcoming PlayStation 4, Nintendo 3DS, and Nintendo Switch game shows off a myriad of activities, including: combat, flying, camping, and more.

When camping, you can recover both your HP and MP, and even utilize various options like patrolling, praying to the Goddess, and smithing. A menu was shown with a bunch of different weapons, which you can also craft as well. The weapons shown had their required materials displayed, as well as the level of difficulty to craft.

We also get a look at flying in the game, with the protagonist hopping onto the back of a flying dragon mount of sorts (Editor’s Note: Twitter GIF via NeoGAF).

Finally, you get a look at series creator Yuji Horii’s work area, which is made up of a converted apartment that allows him to relax while brainstorming for Dragon Quest things.

Dragon Quest XI is launching sometime next year across PlayStation 4, Nintendo 3DS, and the Nintendo Switch.

How are they going to make this game work on the 3DS? That’s ancient hardware.

    Not really shit, just different.

They’re using chibi models for the 3DS version like they did for VII, and as far as 3DS games go it looks pretty good actually.

…way to try to support your “argument” with a dithered bitmap image that only shows up on rare occasions in most retro games. Let’s also ignore the fact that said image doesn’t apply in actual gameplay either.

This isn’t even an argument. You posted some random .jpg you found off the internet and called that pretty “retro” art just to try and hold up your point, when stuff like this is completely subjective.

There are plenty of 3DS games that look great. The important things are, have a level of technical prowess that makes your game not look like nowadays Steam Greenlight and use the art style that executes your game’s universe as accurately as possible.

They’re clearly really proud of that waterfall. Walk-bys of it have constituted 25% of all the preview footage shown so far.

The 3DS has games with good gameplay but because of the horrible screens it has, none of them look “great”. Not a single one for the entire lifetime of the system.

It’s one thing to argue that the screens on the 3DS aren’t great so they hold down a particular game’s art direction. It’s another one entirely to ostensibly accuse the entire library of 3DS games of having “shit graphics”.

Sure, the screens are nothing incredible. At best, they’re merely adequate. That doesn’t mean the games look bad, and to say so is complete hyperbole. What if I said PS4 Pro games look like garbage because most of them use a form of temporal anti-aliasing which I don’t enjoy? It’s nonsense because it’s just my subjective opinion about how something looks.

I can’t believe they ban Smug but let you keep defecating all over the comment sections of people you don’t like. I thought Michael was against people who couldn’t ever make a point and just spewed the same garbage over and over again?

You could at least try and counter my claim, but I guess that admitting you’re wrong or taking an impartial stance is simply impossible for someone whose head is so far up his own ass, he hasn’t had a chance to look at his own stupidity in years.

Thanks for being a massive waste of time and *actually* making browsing this site unpleasant.
