The latest preview for Tales of Zestiria has gone up on Famitsu, and thanks to their new information we’ve learned of a new character named Edna, as well as some new details on both Slay and Alicia’s fighting styles.
Edna
- Voice actress: Misato Fukuen
- Character designer: Minoru Iwamoto
- Height: 145cm
- Weapon of choice: An umbrella
Edna is a young girl from the Family of Heaven, and her special ability is that of manipulating the earth-fused Heaven Echo Artes. Don’t let her cute looks deceive you, as her personality is a bit more rigid and adult like, and she also enjoys teasing others with her quick wit and sharp tongue. Edna has always lived by herself, but it’s very possible that she’s actually quite lonely and looking for companionship. She is always formal, but when she’s around her older brother (her only living family), she gets quite emotional.
Battle System
The Famitsu preview also talked about the battle system in Tales of Zestiria. The game returns to the Linear Motion Battle System that has been a staple in the series for years now. Specifics on whether or not changes have been made in Zestiria have not been confirmed yet, but Namco Bandai shared some new screenshots and information for both Slay and Alicia’s fighting styles.
Slay’s Fighting Style
Slay fights with a ceremonial sword that he found in an ancient ruin, and he is quick to leap out and attack his enemies. He learns skills quickly and has very quick attacks to compliment his fast movements. He also has the ability to enhance his own abilities, unleash special skills, and perform attribute attacks.
Alicia’s Fighting Style
Alicia fights with a spear that is actually longer than her entire body, and she miraculously pivots it around with ease as she pummels her enemies with quick and efficient strikes. Since her weapon is a polearm, she is also effective in taking down groups of enemies, whether they’re in front of her, on her side, or behind her. After launching an attack, it may seem like her defenses are down, but she also has a lot of prowess in moving around to better position for her next attack.
Tales of Zestiria is currently in development for the Playstation 3, and is set for a worldwide release.
