Following the quiet reveal of their new game, we’ve learned that new Blizzard survival game has been in development for years.
While details on that new Blizzard survival game are very thin, they are hiring for a number of new positions and the game was described as being in an “early stage” of development. However, a social media post from project lead Craig Amai has led sleuths to discover he’s been working on the game for years now.
“Once upon a time this dream project was humble pitch deck on my desktop,” Amai said in a tweet. “Now it’s a team full of caring and passionate people sharing a vision I couldn’t be prouder to be part of.”
This led folks to go see if there was any further background on Amai’s tenure at Blizzard, and they discovered his public LinkedIn profile (via PC Gamer) which notes he’s been working on “Unannounced Survival Game” since July of 2017, which is just shy of five years. Amai was previously a senior game designer and lead quest designer on World of Warcraft.
It remains to be seen just how far along the new unannounced survival game at Blizzard Entertainment really is, but company lead Mike Ybarra did recently tweet that he’s played “many hours of this project with the team.” Coming from this, we know the game is at least playable now.
The new game was gently announced soon after Microsoft announced they’re buying Activision Blizzard for nearly $70 billion. With the game’s release easily a ways off, it’ll be interesting what “consoles” the game ends up on alongside its PC release.
We’ll keep you guys posted.
