Tigertron also confirmed they’re collaborating with environmental organizations The Ocean Foundation and SeaLegacy:
The Ocean Foundation
Eco-focused video game studio Tigertron today announced a collaboration with The Ocean Foundation, a leading Washington, D.C.-based environmental organization, to support the group’s marine conservation initiatives by including unlockable content in Tigertron’s upcoming PlayStation 4 / PlayStation VR game, Jupiter & Mars, which will be playable for the first time anywhere at BitSummit Vol. 6, in Kyoto, Japan.
“We hope that by showcasing the efforts of organizations like The Ocean Foundation that we can enrich Jupiter & Mars with fact-based scientific content that expands upon the challenges our characters face, such as ocean acidification, the melting of polar icecaps, and coral reef bleaching” said James Mielke, the creative director for Tigertron. “Video games are such a unique, interactive medium, we felt this would be the perfect way to introduce groups like The Ocean Foundation to a whole new audience of gamers active and engaged about the world they live in.”
Mark J. Spalding, the president of The Ocean Foundation, added, “We at The Ocean Foundation are excited to join Tigertron in this unique partnership to raise awareness of the realities facing our global ocean. We hope that as players explore the digital underwater world of Jupiter & Mars, they will be inspired to protect life on our blue planet.”
Jupiter & Mars is a groundbreaking new video game for PlayStation 4 and PSVR, which puts players in the role of dolphins Jupiter and her companion, Mars, as they explore five distinct “biomes,” such as tropical islands and sunken underwater cities. With the help of a group of ancient whales called The Elders, Jupiter and Mars navigate a future Earth where mankind has disappeared, forcing the dolphins to confront and solve the after-effects of man’s industrial legacy. Set in spectacular environments, Jupiter & Mars is an audio / visual feast for the senses that aims to entertain gamers worldwide and inspire the video gaming community with its story and message.
SeaLegacy
Eco-focused video game studio Tigertron today announced a collaboration with SeaLegacy, a pioneering, globally active environmental organization, to share the group’s unique brand of photography and film-driven storytelling initiatives through special, unlockable content in Tigertron’s upcoming PlayStation 4 / PlayStation VR game, Jupiter & Mars, which is playable for the first time anywhere this weekend at BitSummit Vol. 6, the independent gaming festival in Kyoto, Japan.
“SeaLegacy––via in the efforts of co-founders Paul Nicklen and Cristina Mittermeier––is incredible at raising awareness and inspiring change through their stunning photography, which reveals the fragile state of our planet. They further articulate this messaging at high impact events around the world, like TED Talks, and other conferences. We thought we could help boost this signal by inviting them to be a part of Jupiter & Mars, and hopefully help them reach an entirely new, socially active audience,” said James Mielke, the creative director for Tigertron. “Healthy oceans equal a healthy planet––oceans are not an inexhaustible resource––and we encourage anyone interested in helping the creatures that inhabit it to begin by exploring SeaLegacy’s community, The Tide.”
Cristina Mittermeier, the co-founder of SeaLegacy, added, “Thinking about the way that young people engage with media and communicate today, we think that video games with a purpose, like Jupiter & Mars, are vital to engage young audiences in our efforts to protect the oceans.”
