Netflix has renewed their upcoming live action series based on The Witcher for another season, just before the premiere of its first season.
Reportedly, Season 2 of the show will begin production in London sometime early next year, with a planned premiere in 2021. Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich added, “I’m so thrilled that before fans have even seen our first season, we are able to confirm that we’ll be returning to The Continent again to continue telling the stories of Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri.”
While the series, based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s The Witcher novels, gained worldwide acclaim mostly thanks to CD Projekt RED’s video game adaptations, the live-action TV series by Netflix is focused on the books. The creative staff on the show have also made it clear their writing and casting has been focused on being more inclusive, rather than by the source novels.
The Witcher is now set for a December 20th premiere.
