Kodansha and Production I.G. announced the CG anime back in April 2017. Production I.G. USA president Maki Terashima-Furuta had previously announced Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) and Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed) would each direct one of the two 12 episode seasons. Both are also planning to co-direct Adult Swim’s Blade Runner – Black Lotus anime.
Other staff involved with Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 include Production I.G. and Sola Digital Arts as Producers, with Ilya Kuvshinov (The Wonderland) handling Character Designs.
The second season will follow the events of the first which released back in 2020.
The first season is being compiled into a film in order to help new viewers get up to speed. The film released in Japanese theaters on November 12th. The first 8 minutes of the film can be found below.
