Netflix Announces Pacific Rim: The Black Anime Series

Pacific Rim: The Black

Netflix has announced their upcoming anime series Pacific Rim: The Black in collaboration with Legendary Pictures and Polygon Pictures.

Pacific Rim began as a 2013 film directed by Guillermo del Toro and featured an international coalition of pilots who were responsible for fighting off giant kaiju in mechas called “Jaegers”.

The new anime series appears to make usage of 3D animation rather than conventional animation which has been the case with their other series such as Kengan Ashura and Beastars. Polygon Pictures, the animation studio tasked with Pacific Rim: The Black is known for their work in Transformers: Prime and the Cartoon Network series Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

Netflix gave a brief rundown of the series on their NX Twitter page which can be found below.

“Long ago, humanity defeated the Kaiju. Now, they’re evacuating Australia. In 2021 join a pair of siblings and their battered, long-abandoned Jaegar as they battle across a continent of danger in Pacific Rim: The Black.”

At the time of publishing there’s no specific release date beyond Pacific Rim: The Black coming out sometime in 2021.

Details about the plot and cast are forthcoming and will be posted here on Nicchiban.
