Netflix Announces Dragon’s Dogma Anime, Premieres September 17

Netflix has announced an anime series based off Capcom’s action RPG video game Dragon’s Dogma is in development.

The announcement came via the platform’s official Twitter pages (@NXOnNetflix).

Only the Arisen can face the Dragon and defeat the apocalypse. Here’s your first look at the anime series adaptation of Capcom’s action fantasy classic Dragon’s Dogma, arriving September 17th.

Dragon’s Dogma is a fantasy roleplaying game that originally released in 2012 on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Players take on the role of the “Arisen,” an adventurer who is fated to fight the evil dragon Grigori, said to be a harbinger of the world’s end.It also utilized AI companions that learned how to deal with various enemies and scenarios based on your actions.

The game takes place in the fantasy world of Gransys, which is rife with monsters such as griffins and dragons. The player character in the game is customizable, though based on the teaser image for the anime, the Arisen will be a dark haired man.

Capcom submitting other franchises to Netflix for animated series is not wholly unexpected after the runaway success of the recent Castlevania. That was confirmed to be getting a fourth season earlier this year.

We will keep you informed as we learn more.

Dragon’s Dogma will be premiering September 17th on Netflix.
