Netflix Announces Bright: Samurai Soul

Bright

Netflix has announced an anime adaptation of the 2017 film Bright, but reimagined as a samurai tale seemingly set in Japan called Bright: Samurai Soul.

The film was announced as part of Netflix’s “Geeked Week” which also included announcements about the Cuphead cartoon, as well as news about the upcoming season of The Witcher.

Bright was a 2017 fantasy film that was distributed directly on the Netflix streaming service. The film is a cop thriller taking place in a modern fantasy universe where magical races like orcs and elves live in the present day.

The reimagining of Bright: Samurai Soul replaces the cop Daryl Ward (played by Will Smith in the 2017 movie) with the samurai Izo. But the overall story appears to be the same as Izo and the orc Raiden protect a young elf girl and the magic wand she carries, much like the original film.

The film is being directed by Kyohei Ishiguro, who has been an episode director for many series; but he’s mostly known for being the series director for Your Lie in April and Occultic;Nine.

A premiere date for Bright: Samurai Soul has yet to be announced at the time of publishing.
