With The Last of Us series airing soon on HBO, developer Naughty Dog is hyping up their next project.
Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann talked up the process of working on the series, as well as his vision for future games made by the company.
Past titles made by Naughty Dog have already been received as cinematic, with the Uncharted series being considered heavily done as if it were a film. Their treasure hunter franchise did receive a movie adaptation earlier this year, starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg.
However, Druckmann gave a hint as to what can be expected out of the team’s next project. He suggested (via The New Yorker) it will be “structured more like a TV show”, more than any other game they’ve made.
Alongside this new tease, he also revealed that he won’t be the solo writer for the project either, but rather he’s assembled a “writing team” to work on the project as well.
Of coure, this statement does little in explaining what type of game can be expected next.
Considering the idea of a series style game, there have also already been video games released in the past that used episodic releases, such as the famous Walking Dead video games by TellTale.
Meanwhile, The Last of Us television series will be airing soon on January 15, 2023 and the PC port of the first game’s remake will be arriving afterwards on March 3, 2023.
