With a recently launched kickstarter page and a Steam greenlight campaign, developer Telepaths Tree is hoping enough people take an interest in their new horror FPS game, Inner Chains, to breathe life into its grotesque, unreal engine 4 powered world.
Inner Chains’ story centers around a future version of Earth where, after mankind dies off, the planet’s ecoystem evolves to such a state that it merges with and assimilates our long-abandoned technology, resulting in the birth of a new hybrid “bio-mechanical” life form. As this new race creates their own world on top of ours, they end up making the same mistakes. Religious oppression, manipulation, and a caste-based society have risen to halt any hope of further advancement. This sorry state is what spurs the player’s character into searching for a mythical place called “the last hope” which is said to have the key to making things right.
Everything in Inner Chains’ world is alien – almost Giger-esque – with even the weapons baring the nature-bonded-with-technology style of construction. It all contributes to the unique appearance of the game’s world, which looks fantastic in Epic’s new engine.
The game will give the player a choice of five character classes, adding a bit of role-playing to the horror/FPS formula. Telepaths Tree also promises a high level of environmental and NPC interaction as well, so it shouldn’t just be about fast-paced gunplay.
Inner Chains will also ship with VR support, provided it meets its stated Kickstarter goal of $10,000. As of this writing, they are $3,440 towards that goal with 33 days to go, so meeting it seems likely.
