Nasu: Summer in Andalusia finally gets western release via AnimEigo

Nasu: Summer in Andalusia

The classic 2000s anime film Nasu: Summer in Andalusia by Madhouse is finally getting its first official English release in the USA next year, via boutique anime publisher AnimEigo.

Originally released back in 2003 for Japan and directed by longtime Studio Ghibli collaborator Kitaro Kosaka, Nasu: Summer in Andalusia was originally adapted from a short 3-volume manga Nasu by Io Kuroda.

The first English release for the film in the Americas is coming sometime in March 2025 and will include a brand-new 37-minute interview with Kosoka, as well as bonus features like a trailer and teaser videos.

The anime focuses on Spanish cyclist Pepe Benengeli, as he competes in the Vuelta a España road bicycle race that runs through his hometown in the Iberian region of Andalusia. Pepe faces with difficult scenarios as he gets pressure from both his sponsors and the wedding of his ex-girlfriend, Carmen, to his older brother Ángel.

As mentioned this is the first English release for Nasu: Summer in Andalusia in the Americas, though Animax Asia has been streaming the anime in English but only in Southeast Asian regions. It’s worth mentioning Nasu was the first-ever anime film to be shown at the Cannes Film Festival in France.
