MSI Afterburner dev says program is “semi abandoned” due to Ukraine war sanctions

MSI

MSI Afterburner has been one of the most popular tools for PC gamers wishing to overclock, undervolt, or otherwise tweak their GPU settings.

However, it seems that the project has now unfortunately become “semi abandoned” as a result of the Russian-Ukrainian war.

When asked about the software in relation to AMD’s newest graphics cards, developer Unwinder revealed that the project will likely have to go on the backburner.

The sole reason behind the program’s development being halted is the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian war. As such, Unwinder is a citizen of Russia, who has been hit by numerous sanctions.

This include the tech sector, where MSI has been unable to provide them with any support ever since the war began back in February 2022, they claim.

Therefore, MSI Afterburner has only been run by Unwinder alone and given their life situation, they’ll likely have to fully drop the project as well to provide for themselves.

For now, they promise to continue working on it in their free time, but they are still only one person. Of course things could easily change as well.

MSI likely still wants to support the software, but cannot due to political circumstances. If/when the sanctions are lifted, then it’s probable that MSI Afterburner will return to normal support.
