Mortal Kombat 1 reboot announced

Mortal Kombat 1

A reboot of the Mortal Kombat franchise is coming in the form of Mortal Kombat 1 later this year.

This isn’t a remaster or remake technically, this is a reboot. While technically the 12th game in the mainline franchise, the story of the setting is being reset as the fire god Liu Kang creates a new world. Taking place approximately 30 years in the past, the story of Mortal Kombat will diverge from where it began in this latest game.

The Mortal Kombat setting is stepped in decades of lore that can be difficult to decipher for newer fans. This latest game could make that easier for new players, or this reboot could just be another facet in the franchise’s lore if they ever return to the “original” timeline.

You can check out the trailer below.

Mortal Kombat 1 is coming September 19 to Xbox Series X/S, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Shang Tsung is available as a pre-order exclusive character.
