Although we already have a multiplayer Elder Scrolls title in the form of The Elder Scrolls Online, it took Bethesda going the free-to-play route, as well as a few clever promotions, to get to the point where the game had a healthy player base.
One reason may be that the uniqueness and character building complexity present in their older Elder Scrolls titles didn’t make the leap to their online variant.
If you feel the same, you’re in luck, because some talented modders have found a way to squeeze in a multiplayer option in the latest beta build of OpenMW.
Unfortunately for Morrowind fans, the creators of OpenMW have no plans to add in this new multiplayer option until the suite is finalized and at version 1.0.
Since it’s currently sitting at 0.37, it may be a long time before we finally see this all come together. Regardless, it’s a big leap in Morrowind fan development and, like San Andreas Online, will one day become a game in and of itself.
Editor’s Note: The article originally referred to as OpenMW as a ‘mod,’ this is not the case as it is a standalone program.
