Slice-of-life series Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun is now available on Netflix’s streaming service.

Originally a 2011 manga series by Izumi Tsubaki, Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun received an anime in 2014. According to the official staff page, the 2014 series was directed by Mitsue Yamazaki, and animated by studio Doga Kobo. The manga is currently still ongoing.

Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun follows Chiyo Sakura, a high school girl that confesses to her crush Umetarou Nozaki. Unknown to her, is that Nozaki is a shojou manga artist writing under the pen name Sakiko Yumeno. Rather than become his lover, she resigns herself to the position of his assistant in order to get closer to him.

Along the way Sakura and Nozaki meet and are inspired by their classmates, their interactions with them encouraging developments in Nozaki’s manga. Primarily the two interact with the school’s drama club, which Nozaki writes scripts for when he’s not working on his manga.

Between Sakura’s friends, the drama club, and Nozaki’s other helpers there’s always a situation for Nozaki to use as inspiration for his manga.
