Capcom has published a large update for Monster Hunter X revealing some new screenshots that introduces one of the four main beasties, the Dinovaldo, as well as the new Ancient Forest area, and more.

You can find all the information below:

The Dinovaldo is described as the crimson wyvern, and it clearly has an elongated, dangerous tail. Due to its sword-like tail, it’s also known as the “cutting wyvern.” It has extremely strong legs, and can overcome and annihilate its prey in the blink of an eye.

Its outer skin is made of highly-flammable iron, and it bursts into flames when ignited by friction. Another goal in challenging the beast is to muck its blade-like tail with soot, so that it can’t cut efficiently – however, it sometimes uses its fangs to polish its tail.

The ancient forest is a locale set on a massive island, and it features its own ecosystem. The ecosystem is mostly explored, although there are still lots of regions that are undeveloped, and assumedly need investigation.

A giant herbivore species known as the Rimosetos dwells in this forest. They’re mostly docile, and they won’t actively harm wayward hunters. Their extended necks allow them to eat both fruit and leaves from high vantage points, and they make a unique call from the organ on their heads.

There’s also the Maccau, which is a bird wyvern that features a bright green and red body. The Maccau predominantly travels in herds, and it descends on its prey with its strong legs. The Great Maccau, however, is the leader of the entire herd. It has a noticeable feathery plume, and when approaching its prey, uses its tail like a springboard.

Certain monsters are returning as well, including the Brachydios, Tigrex, Rathalos, and the Zinogre.

Felyne Palicoes also make a return in Monster Hunter X. They offer a wide variety of support types, and they help you battle monsters both in large and small sizes. They can heal you, lay traps, and attack your enemies. Palicoes can also set up a trampoline, so that you can jump, run, or throw barrel bombs at your enemies.

You can assemble your Palicoes in the Felyne Plaza, a place where you can develop them even further. From here, you can oversee their growth, and even outfit them in between your adventures.

Monster Hunter X is coming exclusively to the Nintendo 3DS in Japan some time this winter.
