Capcom’s latest in their ongoing monster hunter series, Monster Hunter X, has been unveiling all kinds of new additions to the series, from new monsters to new locales.
However, one thing that will likely change a lot of the core gameplay was the addition of new special moves for each of the weapon types called “Hunting Arts”. However, there’s an even bigger change coming in X – the addition of “Hunting Styles”.
This week’s Famitsu (via Games Talk) ran a story detailing the four styles that will be available in the game, and how each functions. Check it out:
First is the Guild Style. Functioning primarily the same way we’re all used to hunting, this is a well-balanced and simple combat style. Second is the Striker Style. People who are all about rushing down the monster will gravitate toward this one – an attack focused style that will allow you to equip up to three Hunting Arts.
Third is the Aerial Style. Focusing on mid-air attacks, this style will allow hunters to attack while in mid-air as well as use a specialized jumping attack. Fourth is the Bushido Style. For those experienced hunters who know each and every monster’s attack patterns, this style is for you. Utilizing this style allows hunters to use incredibly powerful counter attacks after dodging a monster’s attack. It can be great to turn the tide of battle, but requires great risk for it’s reward.
Also announced were two new monsters.
First up we have the mammoth-like Gamut. While they are in fact herbivores, they are still aggressive – and dangerous.
They can use their trunks to suck up hunters, spit out wide area of attack breath attacks, and throw rocks at hunters with deadly aim.
Second was the Hororo-Horuru, a new Bird Wyvern. It likes the dark, and can use it’s sharp clawed wings to attack enemies while in flight, making it quite dangerous. They also can cause knock-out with scales on their wings, leaving hunters defenseless for short periods of time.
They’ll also have sound wave attacks that function like a beam; and getting hit by said attack will cause a “Pinch” status, though it’s unclear what that actually entails yet.
Monster Hunter X is set for a November 28th release in Japan, exclusively on the Nintendo 3DS.
