Hiroshi Kobayashi, the director of Mobile Suit Gundam The Witch from Mercury has confirmed that Suletta and Miorine are officially married.
Fans of the series already suspected this to be the case when in an epilogue scene the pair are conspicuously wearing wedding rings.
After fans noticed this, Bandai Namco, the show’s producer, was quick to try and say that the ending was vague. This was speculatively done in order to avoid backlash from viewers who wouldn’t approve of a canon same-sex marriage.
However in the recent Blu-Ray release, director Hiroshi Kobayashi offered his statement on the issue.

The epilogue depicts the world three years later. Was this decided from the beginning?
Kobayashi: We had decided to write an epilogue, but we didn’t decide on the specific number of years until later. The ending itself is similar to “Tempest,” with Suletta and Miorine getting married and becoming partners.
At the time of Bandai Namco’s statement, some fans speculated that the sudden change from Bandai Namco may have to do with the sudden popularity of Gundam (Gunpla) models in China, which may react negatively to a series with two lesbian protagonists.
