The upcoming annual baseball release with MLB The Show 24 has announced a new game mode coming which will see players taking the role of a woman trying to make it in to the big league.

The new mode, titled “Road to the Show: Women Pave Their Way”, while a storyline is new to the series is essentially the “Road to the Show” career game mode that’s been present in the franchise for years. The mode does have a unique storyline involving women, which includes an important relationship to a childhood friend throughout the career.

According to developer San Diego Studio, they interviewed Kelsie Whitmore, member of the Women’s USA Baseball National Team, when working through their storyline to get a perspective from someone in the profession.

From the looks of the trailer announcing this mode, it appears this game mode will put the female character in the MLB, which most already know to be male dominated. As in, only men can currently compete professionally in this league, though there are other leagues with just women in them such as the one Kelsie Whitmore competes in.

There are other sports games which features women’s sports, such as the NBA 2K series with the WNBA, and EA’s Sports FC having women’s teams.

MLB The Show 24 is set to launch on March 19, 2024 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
