Mistwalker Corporation boss Hironobu Sakaguchi is teasing their next game, and it sounds like a big return to form for the Final Fantasy creator.
In an end of year round of interviews with various big name Japanese developers, Sakaguchi revealed not only is he working on a new game, it’s a new RPG.
“I have started writing a scenario for a new work, though the title is still undisclosed. It will be a dark fantasy,” Sakaguchi said to Famitsu.
The ex-Final Fantasy boss also said he “will not quit Final Fantasy XIV” and “see you in Eorzea.”
After a long pedigree at Squaresoft where he was heavily involved with production, Sakaguchi left the company and formed Mistwalker Corporation, who made titles like Lost Odyssey (pictured) and Fantasian.
His team at Mistwalker has been making games for nearly twenty years already, so Sakaguchi joked in the interview “I thought I might retire (laughs)” but he “decided to try moving again.”
Lastly, Sakaguchi teased his keyword for 2023 is “Restart” and that he’s most looking forward to “a sequel to John Wick,” confirming he is “a big fan.” The fourth film does look incredibly promising.
