Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid fan ‘fixes’ scene with AI

Kobayashi Localization

A fan of Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid (Kobayashi-san Chi no Meidoragon) has redubbed the infamous “patriarchal societal demands” scene using AI technology.

The dub for the series has faced renewed criticism in recent weeks after western localizers voiced concerns over The Ancient Magus Bride relying on AI translations for simulpub releases. This has the result of cutting out western publishers and localizers who have seemingly cheered erroneous translations and censorship.

The infamous scene has Lucoa and Tohru have a back and forth conversation. In the original, Lucoa tries to conform to criticism she faced after coming to this world but it comes off as comedically excessive; Tohru’s cheeky response is that Lucoa’s real problem is her body more than the clothes.

You can find the original translation and dub comparison along with the AI redub from YouTuber Prompt Pirate below.

Prompt Pirate also adds a little scene at the end that surprisingly also matches the lip flaps (used by localizers as an excuse for why translations have to be so different).
