Minecraft fans have abandoned the wiki-hosting platform Fandom over increasingly user-hostile site design as more and more ads are added.
Fandom has been a hosting platform for thousands of fan wikis over the years, think of a piece of media and there’s likely a Fandom wiki for it. However Minecraft fans finally had enough.
The wiki has been forked over to a page hosted by “Weird Gloop” and here at Niche Gamer we personally confirmed far fewer ads on the new Minecraft wiki.
On the original wiki that’s still on Fandom, we had a big banner ad at the top, a video ad in the bottom right hand corner, a tool bar on the left hand side to lead to even more wikis, and a small pop-up in the bottom right asking us to take a quiz.
Minecraft has a large community, and it’s likely that despite the exodus from Fandom, other users will see an opportunity to crawl into the site’s vacant leadership positions, but the new wiki can be found here.
Minecraft is available for Windows PC, Linux, Mac (all via the official website), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Android, iOS, Amazon Fire, Amazon Fire, and Fire TV. The Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, Xbox 360, and Wii U versions have been discontinued and are no longer supported.
