Minecraft has been a popular game for YouTubers to show off due to its sandbox nature, and its multiplayer component as well. As hot trends vary over the years in gaming, the sandbox game was somewhat dethroned by other popular games like Fortnite – until now.

The Mojang-developed game is now the most-viewed game on YouTube once again, as confirmed by their 2019 YouTube Rewind recap video. The reasoning behind the game’s resurgence? The popular Youtuber PewDiePie decided to play the game again over the summer.

“Its resurgence paralleled the decision by YouTube’s most subscribed creator, PewDiePie, to re-engage with the game in late June,” YouTube noted in their update.

They added, “The month after PewDiePie posted ‘Minecraft Part 1’—his first Minecraft video in years—uploads of videos related to the game reached an all-time high. And Minecraft, once again, returned to its place atop the most-viewed games of the year list.”

PewDiePie has somewhat of a history with Minecraft – his oldest video upload is titled “Minecraft Multiplayer Fun” and is – you guessed it, a video of him just dicking around in Minecraft. He stopped playing the game for years for a number of reasons, only to finally return now.

Minecraft has been available for Windows PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, 3DS, PS Vita, Wii U, Nintendo Switch, and both iOS and Android.
