Minami-ke anime

Coharu Sakuraba’s Minami-ke, a 2000’s era comedy manga series, will get a brand new anime the first time in over ten years since its previous anime release in 2013.

The fifth anime series based on the popular manga was revealed in the “Minami-ke 20th Anniversary Tanabata Festival” event this past weekend in Japan.

No further details were announced, but the three main cast of the previous Minami-ke series, Minori Chihara, Rina Sato, and Marina Inoue (playing Chiaki, Haruka, and Kana Minami respectively) attended the festival, as well as Rika Morinaga (Makoto) and Aki Toyosaki (Yoshino).

Minori Chihara expressed desire to play Chiaki again in the fifth series. Marina Inoue, Rina Sato, and Rika Morinaga and Aki Toyosaki also expressed gratitude for the 20th anniversary on their respective social media accounts.

The story by Coharu Sakuraba tells of the antics of three sisters of the Minami family, all with their own quirks and going with the antics among themselves, their family, and classmates. The manga has been published in Kodansha’s Weekly Young Magazine since March 2004.

The first anime was produced by Daume in 2007, while Asread handled the second season Minami-ke: Okawari in 2008 and also Minami-ke: Okaeri for the third season, and also produced an OVA (original video animation) episode, Minami-ke: Betsubara, in 2009. Feel produced another OVA named Minami-ke: Omatase, followed up by a fourth anime in 2013 titled Minami-ke: Tadaima.
